Resell Rights Explained
by John Delavera
This week I got some messages from you with questions about
resell rights, so I am going to make everything clear in
this article.
As I have already mentioned in previous articles, there are
three ways to start making money on the Net:
1. Create your own product and sell it.
2. Become an affiliate to a hot-selling product and promote it, and
3. Get the resell rights to a good product and resell it.
No. 3 is what I am going to explain.
First of all let's make some terms clear:
Your Normal Rights:
When you buy a product (ebook, software, or anything)
online, you do not get the rights to resell it. You are NOT
allowed to resell it or even give it away to your closest
friends. You have the right to USE the product and create a
back up copy for it. That's it. Nothing more.
Give Away Rights:
When a product comes with Give Away Rights, that means you
get a copy of the product and that you can also give it
away to anyone for FREE.
Resell Rights:
When a product comes with Resell Rights, that means you get
a copy of the product you can use and that you can also
resell to your customers. However, your customers CANNOT
resell this product. If your customers also want to sell
this product, they have to buy the resell rights from the
owner that sold those rights to you.
Master Resell Rights:
When a product comes with Master Resell Rights, that means
a) you get a copy of the product you can use
b) you can resell this product to your customers AND
c) your customers can also resell this product to THEIR customers
too.
Restrictions imposed by the owner/creator:
When you buy a product with Resell Rights OR Master Resell
Rights, you better check on any special restrictions the
owner has imposed on your rights. For example, you may have
bought the Master Resell Rights for a product, BUT this
does not mean you can:
- Give the product away.
- Include this product in your affiliate program.
- Include the product in a package and resell the whole package.
- Include a product in a membership site.
If you are NOT sure about your rights, DO NOT EVER decide
by yourself. Contact the owner (email her/him or call
her/him) and ask for your rights. If you want to add the
product in a package, ask her/him to allow you to do so.
NEVER act before obtaining that special license.
Here is an example:
I bought the Resell Rights for the "Headline Creator Pro"
software that you can find at http://headlinecreator.com
I was not sure if I could add this product to my affiliate
program or if I could add this product to a package. So,
what I did was contact Scott Britner, creator of the
Software, and asked for special permission. Scott - who is
a generous man by the way - gave me the right to include
the software in Software4Profit.com' s affiliate program
(http://software4profit.com/affiliates.shtml),
and to also
add it into a package, which is what I did with TurboZiner
(http://turboziner.com)
So if you are not sure about your rights, NEVER act by your
instinct or by your will. Always be sure about your rights;
otherwise, you'll get into trouble - even legal trouble.
What price?
In most cases, the owner suggests that you NOT lower the
price of the product you get with Resell or Master Resell
Rights. Although this is not a legal or an obligatory
restriction (especially in USA), I'd advise you to comply
with what the owner asks from you.
Do you know why? Because in the case of the Master Resell
Rights, you get a product with a low cost, but if you give
it away or lower the price, you're actually killing it and
saturating the market. That especially happens when the
product is brand NEW. Do not kill the product by lowering
the price and always respect the work done by the owner.
So, what basically happens when you buy a product with
Resell Rights is this:
- You get the product itself.
- You get special permission from the owner that you can resell
the product.
- You get any promotional material the owner has created for this
product, like email ads, solo ads, banners, autoresponder
follow-up messages, etc.
- You get a complete website you can use to resell the product.
If you subscribed to this newsletter a few months ago, you
probably remember that I asked for your opinion whether to
buy the resell rights for Terry Dean's Internet Marketing
Protege package or not. I actually did buy it.
Terry Dean is a well-respected marketer that charges $1000
per hour for his advice, so, when you buy an Internet
Marketing Program from Terry, you can feel safe that you'll
at least MASTER Internet Marketing.
I bought the resell rights for this package for a few
thousand US dollars and now sell it at
http://software4profit.com/protege
Terry was kind enough to also give me the rights to resell
"Internet X-Factor," which you can find here:
http://software4profit.com/p/xfactor
The "Internet Marketing Protege" program/package sells for
$495.00.
This is not cheap, but for what you actually get (3
folders, 1 video, 18 tapes), it's not expensive either.
I wanted to be able to offer an Internet Marketing tutorial
to my "students," but I never had the time -or you'd say,
even the "talent"- to write hundreds of pages for this
subject. Since masters like Terry and others had already
created such packages, that is WHY I bought the resell
rights for this package.
Terry imposed some restrictions though:
- I cannot include this program in a membership site.
- I cannot include it in a package.
- I cannot offer it as a downloadable product.
- I cannot give it away and I was asked to keep the price at $495.00.
Do you know how many "years" I would have needed to write
what I bought from Terry? Well, I assure
you: MANY! Add the tapes to this package and I'm sure that
buying this course was the right decision.
You see, even if you are not an expert in your field, you
can "buy" the wisdom of the experts by keeping your eyes
and mind open. You see, Terry's not offering the resell
rights for his package anymore. That's good for me, but not
for you, since you have lost the chance to grab this offer.
I am not an Internet Marketing Guru, but I have decided to
offer what the Gurus offer by buying the resell rights of
their products. This way: a) I save time b) I get a
ready-to-sell package and c) I offer MULTIPLE solutions to
my customers, since Terry's package is not the ONLY
tutorial, or even the last tutorial, I'll resell.
I agree that this game of acquiring the resell rights for
such a program requires money, yes. But I assure you, if
you were to create the same program or the same product to
sell, you'd spend A LOT MORE.
As you can see, obtaining the resell rights of valuable
products is a good way to start your online profit-making
career. I'd not suggest this tactic to newbies since you
need to know the basic principles of how Internet Marketing
works and you should first earn some thousands of dollars
online before even trying this way of becoming rich.
However, if you think you are an experienced Internet
Marketer, then you'll agree with me that buying the resell
rights of hot products is (one of) the easiest way(s) to
prosper online.
